Instructions for the Poster Presentation

Poster File Submission Instruction

All students delivering a poster presentation must submit their final poster by 6PM, Monday, November 25th. Late submissions will not be accepted, as the organizing committee needs sufficient time to print the posters. Please submit your poster via email to uicised@gmail.com .

Poster dimensions and orientation:  A0 (841 mm × 1189 mm), PORTRAIT (not landscape)
Required electronic file format:  PDF (no other formats accepted)
File name: Assigned Presentation # - Name (e.g., P-001-John Doe.pdf)

On the Day of the Event

Each presenter must arrive at the event site (Veritas B Lobby) before the poster session begins, between 12:00 and 13:00, to mount their poster at the designated location. Tools required for mounting will be provided on-site.

During the poster session (13:00 to 15:00), all participants must remain present, preferably near their poster. Evaluators will visit each poster during this time. The best poster presentation will be selected and awarded. Participants are encouraged to visit other posters during the session, provided they are not being evaluated at that time. After the event's closing remarks, participants may take their posters home if they wish.

Design Suggestions for Scientific Posters (Adapted from the American Chemical Society “Instructions for Undergraduate Poster Authors", courtesy of Dr. Balaz)

1. Each vertical (portrait orientation) poster must A0 size (841 wide mm × 1189 mm high).
2. Most presenters prepare their poster in MS PowerPoint. Before you start, set the slide to portrait orientation and correct dimensions.
3. All posters should feature a title, your name, the name of the institution where the research was performed, and should credit other contributors, as appropriate. Tne name of the presenting author should be underlined. The name of the group leader (i.e., principal investigator, professor) should be marked with asterisk*.
4. Do not tell the entire research history. Present only enough data to support your conclusions and show the originality of the work. The best posters display a succinct statement of major conclusions at the beginning, followed by supporting text and a brief summary at the end.
5. Displayed materials should be self-explanatory, freeing you for discussion.
6. Make illustrations simple and bold, with captions at least 1 cm high. Enlarge photos, tables, and charts to show pertinent details clearly.
7. Utilize other techniques to improve the graphic impact. Use color to add emphasis and clarity. Simplicity, ease of reading, etc., are more important than artistic flair. Keep in mind that lighting may be dim inside large poster sessions, so make sure your contrasts and color combinations are easy to read.
8. Use a crisp, clean design. All lettering should be legible from about 1.5 m away. Title lettering should be about 5 to 7.5 cm. Subheading lettering should be 1.5 to 2.5 cm high. Text lettering should be at least 24 points.
